Did this drawing tonight, I drew Lex each day this week at the sketch class at the Art Students League. He was a joy to draw because of the musculare tone of his body; all the things you read about in the anatomy books can so clearly be seen on Lex.
I have been attempting to become more comfortable working in charcoal. I am quite comfortable working in graphite, perhaps because I have been using the common No 2 pencil for as long as I can recall. In this particular drawing I experimented with using graphite and charcoal together, however it’s an experiment I don’t think I will repeat, as it was difficult to work over the graphite with charcoal as the surface was greasy and resisted the charcoal.
I therefore have resolved to become more proficient with charcoal and the way to do it I’ve decided is to use it more frequently to become more comfortable with it (the age old adage of “practice makes perfect” I believe to be true).
