A few years ago I had the opportunity to see a fascinating and wonderful and yet somewhat bizarre painting by Jamie Wyeth at the Adelson Gallery in New York. The painting was a seascape with his father Andrew and grandfather N.C. looking out at the ocean, but in the foreground looking out as well is his friend Andy Warhol. Sounds strange but it’s in fact a beautiful painting.
The painting is currently featured on the cover of American Arts Quarterly and is part of a retrospective held at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (MFA Boston). In the article the author (Stephen May) explains that the imagery is inspired by a dream and that Jamie Wyeth had previously done a painting entitled Sea Watchers that included Winslow Homer as well in the middle ground looking out at sea.
Presently there are 4 major exhibitions featuring Jamie Wyeth’s paintings.
